Based on Sevan’s experience from harsh environment hull design, a novel floating substation concept has been developed.
The principles of Sevan’s proven proprietary floater design are incorporated, providing a stable floater with minimum fatigue on hull and cable connections.
The Sevan Floating Substation concept can be customized to meet client’s capacity requirements for offshore power conversion and distribution (HVAC and HVDC).
Flexible design
- Can be scaled to meet weight and volume capacity requirements
- Can accomodate a large quantity of high-capacity cables
- Benign to harsh environments
Protected equipment
- Equipment will be located in a protected environment inside the hull
- Two stations for Walk to Walk and boat landing provide safe access to the unit.
- Good access for crane vessel.

Protected equipment
- Weather protected with a minimum of openings

- Internal material handling to/from main deck
Unmanned with easy access
- Two stations for Walk to Work and boat landing provide safe access to the unit
- Good access for crain vessel
- Helideck as back-up
The substation is designed for unmanned operation with focus on:
- Safety and reliability/availability.
- Motions, both for equipment and the cables.
- Low costs.
The Sevan floating substation is designed for unmanned operation. The electrical equipment is arranged in a conventional way as a single lift module.
Model testing has verified that the motion criteria for a floating HVAC substation are met.
Mooring lines will be arranged to allow for easy and safe vessel access for crane operations.
