Western Isles FPSO is owned and operated by DANA Petroleum UK Ltd. The FPSO was engineered, constructed and completed in China and has been in operation since November 2017.
Western Isles concept selection started in 2012 and DANA Petroleum needed a design that was suitable for the well-known harsh environment in the Northern North Sea. The select phase ended up choosing a Sevan 400, a design specially made for the high wave heights and wind speeds at the oil fields Harris and Barra.
Sevan did the complete FEED for the FPSO and provided support during EPC, marine operations and installation phase.
Keith Williams, Project General Manager, points out the safety aspect of not using a swivel when talking about the Sevan design and adds that the design does not have a moving part which is a safety critical element, and hence offers a much simpler design. The project was successful and had approx. 14 million manhours without a single lost time injury.
