Arendal Spirit is a FLOTEL (floating accommodation) unit based on a Sevan 300 hull. The Sevan 300 hull was originally constructed to be used for a FPSO project but as the global offshore market changed, it was re-designed to become the first Sevan cylindrical, DP class 3, FLOTEL unit. The Arendal Spirit is equipped to sit on DP alongside another offshore unit, mainly to provide beds and technical services during commissioning or shut down phases.

After her contract ended in Brazil, Arendal Spirit sailed to Arendal Norway, assisted by the tug ALP Defender, where she arrived December 2017 as shown in the video below. She was moored up in a sheltered bay and presently kept in a warm lay-up. A core crew maintains the vessel preservation to keep the reactivation time as short as possible when a new contract is awarded. After re-activation the vessel can sail under own power or with tug assistance to her new work location to start a new contract.
